Training for IDP women and girls

Training on the topic “Women’s leadership, forms of communication, mechanisms of civil inclusion” was conducted with participation of IDP women and girls, members of the target working group living in different communities of Kutaisi.

The training program consisted of a lecture part and practical exercises. Participants were given the opportunity to work in groups on the following issues: what hinders civic engagement at the local level, how to increase the motivation of citizens to increase their involvement in the formation of local politics.

Participants interactively shared their experiences, positions and views on the topics discussed. It was noted that the topics of the training were important and necessary for them: “I began to think about leadership qualities, reconsidered my abilities, and discovered new resources.”

“We received very interesting information and got acquainted with the forms of attracting citizens. It is necessary that as many people as possible know about this.”

“I will definitely use the acquired knowledge in practice. I feel responsible and will be more actively involved in the ongoing processes of the municipality.”

Meeting place - Pakhulani

The monitoring group held an information meeting in the village Pakhulani (Tsalenjikha municipality).

The meeting participants were informed about the mechanisms existing in the country, to support and empower the victims of violence, as well as about local government programs.

The lawyer of the Women Fund “Sukhumi” presented to the audience an important document for teachers and medical personnel - on the approval of national referral procedures for identifying, protecting, assisting and rehabilitating victims of gender-based violence and/or domestic violence.

Since the beginning of February, training courses at Youth Empowerment Centers have actively started. According to the plan, meetings on issues of conflict management and violence are held. In parallel with the trainings, young people organize initiated events in all municipalities.

Active preparations for the final meetings are now underway. Interesting initiatives are planned. Leader groups were created to work on presentations where they will present the impact and results of the project.

Trainings were held in five municipalities: Samtredia, Zugdidi, Terjola, Chokhatauri and Bagdati (online).

Activities of Senaki initiative groups

A training on "Violence prevention and victim support resources" was held with the members of Senaki Women Initiative Group. The participants received information about the activities of shelters for violence victims, the crisis center and victim assistance services. The members of Senaki youth group discussed issues of gender equality. According to them, breaking gender stereotypes will help to build an equal society, and the involvement of young people is necessary in the process.

Cutting and sewing courses in Vani

During the meetings of Vani Women Support Center, women who have many challenges come together and everyone works r to solve these problems. At one of the meetings, women expressed a desire to learn to sew.

In response to their challenge, the Women Fund “Sukhumi” opened cutting and sewing courses in Vani, as well as in some other municipalities. The teacher is Maka Dadunashvili, one of the activists of the Womes Support Center. The Fund “Sukhumi” purchased sewing machines, cloths, threads and everything necessary for normal education. Now it's the women's turn...

The members of the Women Initiative Group of the village Pakhulani - Tsalenjikha municipality conduct a research "Assessment of the quality of human security " in frames of which focus groups and interviews are conducted.

During a working meeting of the interdepartmental commission of Chokhatauri City Hall, the details of the ideas of civil initiatives were summarized and the authoritative persons were selected.

It was decided to conduct “Positive Parenting Training” and women’s needs research in Chokhatauri municipality. City hall structures, representatives of the educational sphere, active citizens will be involved in implementation of the initiatives.

UN Women hosted a two-day workshop on “Monitoring Human Security – a Gender Sensitive Monitoring Tool”.

The workshop is designed for the representatives of the Public Defender’s Office of Georgia (PDO) and the representatives of civil society organizations. The seminar is facilitated by an international expert Zara Jarvinen, who is the author of the tailor-made methodological tool - “Manual on Gender Sensitive Monitoring on Human Security” designed specifically for the use of the PDO and CSOs. This workshop aims to build the capacity of the representatives of the PDO and the CSOs to assess, monitor, analyze and report on human security of the conflict-affected and internally displaced population from a gender perspective, including through a joint and cooperative manner.

Ekaterine Gamakharia, head of the Women Fund "Sukhumi" Tbilisi representative office, participated in the seminar.

This group will conduct four focus groups at this stage. The members got acquainted with the main goals and objectives of the research, defined the target groups and distributed the responsibilities. Representatives of local self-government attended the meeting. Members of the second Women Initiative Group, will continue the research in frames of "Assessment of the quality of human security" using the method of in-depth interview. At this stage, this group will work with four predetermined and selected respondents. The members of Khoni Youth Club were trained on the topic "Disinformation and the mechanisms of combating it", the essence and importance of media literacy. The participants were involved in the theoretical and practical part of the training. Young people learned how to distinguish real and fake information, acquired the necessary skills to fight misinformation.
